3RD PIECE - [LOCKED ROCKET VIDEO/ACTION FOR THE TEAM ROCKET BASE]
[[Kato has been fairly quiet for the past month or two, spending the majority of his time in the Rocket laboratories, focused solely on his research. Now, he's decided that it's worth updating the rest of the Team with his findings.
The video opens with a view of Kato from the waist up, standing in front of an open area of the lab. There's an odd machine sitting behind him, out of view, and his Lunatone hovers near his head, as always.]]
Good day, everyone. I hope this video finds you well.
My name is Dr Kato; I'm one of the scientists working in the Goldenrod labs. My main area of study is weapons, particularly explosives. For this reason, those Pokemon capable of performing the Explosion technique are of great interest to me. I thought it was high time that I gave you all a bit of a sample of just what I've been investigating.
I've noticed that the main way in which Pokemon perform the Explosion technique is chaotic, unrefined; they simply trigger it without aiming at anything in particular, releasing all that energy in a destructive force that is contained to a specific radius. This is a complete waste of potential. A regular bomb is designed to work in this fashion, but Pokemon are different. They can be used as living bombs, with their power constantly improved and increased, capable of producing explosion after explosion after explosion. Why, then, should we be satisfied with these extraordinary creatures performing like ordinary bombs?
Why not gather all that energy and condense it? Imagine a bomb with the power of six Explosion techniques, or ten, or one hundred! That is what my research has developed. A machine capable of taking the power of the Explosion technique from multiple Pokemon, and using it to charge a super-powered bomb. Just imagine the damage we could do with a weapon like this!
But enough talk; I believe a demonstration is in order.
[[With a flick of a switch, the lights behind Kato flare up, highlighting a very odd-looking machine. It's spider-like, with a large body in the centre composed mainly of generators, and six pods splayed out from the main body, connected by cables. In three of them, an Electrode, Weezing and Steelix are swathed in wires, clamps attached to their bodies, with the latter lying off to the side due to her bulk.]]
Observe.
[[With a snap of his fingers, all three Pokemon start to glow in what is unmistakably an Explosion attack. But instead of forcing the energy outwards to destroy everything around them, the light is sucked into the clamps and through the wires, causing the generators to spark into life, a loud humming filling the air as they fill themselves with the power from the attacks.]]
As you can see, the energy my Pokemon are producing is sucked out of them and into the generators I designed. It's not electrical power; it's something different, something more pure. It look quite a few tries to get it to flow properly, but I believe I've gotten it to work. Optimization will be required, of course, but this is just a prototype.
[[Their attacks completed, Kato's three Pokemon slump, obviously fainted, as the generators continue to whirr and hum. A robotic voice rings out through the room:]]
Energy transfer complete.
[[Still with that knowing smile on his face, Kato walks over to the generators and opens a panel. After a few seconds, in which he skillfully disconnects a number of wires, he's left holding what looks to be a metal sphere around the size of a soccer ball. Where a soccer ball would have black patches, however, there are receptacles for all sorts of complicated attachments.]]
Here is the final product. Within this bomb is housed the explosive power of my three Pokemon. I can choose to detonate it with the flick of a switch, or set a timer; it performs just as well as any of my conventional bombs, except it's so much more.
[[His voices rises slightly in volume as he runs his hands over his invention, clearly very pleased with himself.]]
Do you not see the potential of this weapon? Through the usage of Revives, I can continue churning out super-powered bombs whenever we need them! And I'm currently building more collection points, so I can attach even more pokemon to the heart of the device, making the bombs even stronger!
Creation and destruction....through the creation of my explosives, I will destroy this land in the most beautiful manner possible. But for you, Team Rocket, having been kind enough to fund my research, I offer you my services wherever you require them.
Two months from now I will illuminate Johto with the power of my invention! Thank you very much for listening.
[[And with a dramatic, graceful bow, the feed cuts.]]
~
I do hope you're in Goldenrod; I'm ready to fulfill that promise of something of interest to you.

Ranpu, what have I told you? He's never going to learn if you don't start teaching.
[[The Lunatone obediently floats off to another part of the lab; within seconds, there's a muffled explosion, and the Deino crashes against one of the benches before slumping down, fainted.]]
My apologies, Dist; my newest Pokemon has been causing me a bit of grief.
no subject
But he goes right to responding to Kato's note about robots.]
My robots are weapons. In fact, I used many of them in battle, so transitioning into Pokemon battles was rather effortless. The only difference is Pokemon require a little more guidance. [He's glancing at the fainted Deino as he says that too.] What is that Pokemon, anyway? I don't believe I've seen it in the book of Pokemon I recently purchased.
no subject
[[When Dist indicates the fainted Deino, a wicked smile comes over Kato's face.]]
It's called a Deino; a Pokemon dual-typed with Dark and Dragon. It's blind, stupid, and can't stop biting everything that comes within a foot of it. But it's only young; this isn't the form I'm interested in.
[[Kato beckons Dist over to a computer, and pushes a button. An image of a Hydreigon appears on the screen.]]
These are files I managed to unearth covering a range of Dragon type Pokemon. This is the final form of Deino, Hydreigon.
[[And that smile widens as Kato turns to face his guest, voice thick with anticipation.]]
Its only instinct is to destroy everything in its path.
no subject
His expression remains oddly neutral about the Pokemon...until Kato mentions that last bit. To that, he can't help but grin.]
And you intend to tame that? Or simply channel its destructive tendencies into your inventions like you did to the others?
no subject
[[His biggest regret is that the damn thing can't learn Explosion...oh, if it could.....]]
Have any Pokemon taken your fancy, Dist? Any preferences, or types you prefer? I might be able to advise, although I admit my knowledge is fairly limited.
no subject
[He taps his chin. What Pokemon in that book looked the most interesting?]
I'm sure this is unsurprising, but I'd like to capture a few Steel types. Machine-like Pokemon such as Magnemite would be interesting to research, especially since they apparently appear out of nowhere without any real creators.
no subject
[[With any luck, not in the form of the stupid thing running off and biting your Pokemon....]]
Ah, you sound like one of the researchers here; I believe Descole is doing some work on Magnemites and their uses. He might be worth talking to. If you're interested in the Steel-type, however....
[[Let him indicated that massive, albeit fainted, Steelix of his over there.]]
Newton is a Steelix. I know she doesn't look very threatening at the moment, but believe me; she can do some damage.
no subject
Descole, is it? I will have to remember the name. I'd very much like to meet someone who shares my interests.
[Next, he examines the Steelix.]
I do find it interesting that a snake made from rocks can somehow obtain a coating of metal upon evolution. Are they really as powerful as you say?
no subject
[[-let him wave his hand idly in the air as he thinks-]]
...flair to him that I think you'll enjoy.
[[Kato turns, then, admiring his Steelix. Even unconscious, she is magnificent.]]
In order for her to evolve from Onix, she had to be evolved through a 'trade' evolution whilst holding a special item called a Metal Coat. So it's not a natural evolution. It's human engineered.
[[Let him turn to you with a smirk.]]
Which makes it all the more powerful, of course.
no subject
And Dist will return a smirk to Kato when he hears that explanation. Because this actually sounds really intriguing.]
Fascinating. Do you know if this can be done to any Pokemon, or is it limited? Enforcing a Pokemon's body with steel could certainly help its defenses.
[Kato stop giving him ideas.]
no subject
I'm afraid I only know of two Pokemon that can evolve in this manner; the other is called a Scyther. Basically, it's a giant bug with two blades for arms, and the evolution is just as deadly. Maybe another thing worth looking into.
[[Reaching into his pocket, Kato tosses a Revive into his Steelix's mouth, causing her to groan loudly and pull herself up.]]
With a bit of research, you'll find that Pokemon make incredible weapons.
no subject
Dist's gaze follows the Steelix as she lifts up. Wow, they really are quite big when they're not knocked out on the ground. And bugs with scythe arms... Now the monsters in his world are also quite deadly, but creatures with metal coatings and the ability to explode...Pokemon certainly take it to a whole new level.]
You've certainly opened my eyes to that, Doctor Kato. And I do believe I'll have to add those two particular Pokemon to my possible roster list.
