Hydra is quite a pleasant Pokemon, as Hydreigon go, and tends to be well-behaved and disinclined towards violence. Naturally, he's lucky enough to score the worst trainer possible, particularly since Kato has had bad experiences with his evolutionary line in the past. Despite this, he bravely soldiers on in his attempt to get his trainer to notice him...even if it means he has to turn into the mindless destructive machine Kato expects him to be. Named after one of Pluto's moons, when Kato thought he was being particularly clever.

One of Kato's favourite Pokemon back during his first stay in Johto was Ranpu, his Lunatone, and it is his loss that Kato is feeling the hardest. Needless to say, he contacted the Breeding Centre the second he was able and got himself another Lunatone. Sadly enough, Ranpu II is a bit on the silly side and rather easily frightened, which has greatly disappointed his trainer. The only redeeming feature he possesses is an incredible enthusiasm about Kato's work, even if he doesn't always quite understand it. His trainer is putting it down to youth and praying that he matures into the sort of Pokemon the first Ranpu was.

Lussac is basically your typical Gengar - mischievious, a lover of pranks, and rather mean-spirited. Despite this, he knows far better than to play a prank on his trainer, and instead focuses his efforts on sniffing out those Rocket members with a fear of the dark. Even though he knows he's well above Kato's current limit, level wise, he still tends to obey him rather than not, as he knows what happens to those Pokemon who choose to rebel. Remarkably level-headed when the situation calls for it.
The only reason Sulphide isn't currently buried in a PC box is the fact that she'll learn Explosion at some point, and who doesn't find the idea of an exploding skunk amusing? Sulphide is well aware of why she's an active member of Kato's party and it doesn't bother her in the slightest. She's a vain sort of creature who would rather sit around and preen instead of fight, but when push comes to shove she can be convinced to pull her weight. Kato intends to use her as a weapon for both his fieldwork and against those TR members that he finds insufferable.

Kato was also lucky enough to have a completely hideous experience with his last Zoroark, but their unique ability was enough for him to give it a second shot. Thankfully, Shadow is everything his predecessor wasn't - calm, loyal, obedient and ruthless. He follows Kato's orders with efficiency and vigour, and shows a great deal of promise. Seems to have absolutely no sense of humour, apparently, much to the delight of Lussac.

Shale isn't exactly the most rock'n'roll of Rock pokemon - she much prefers sleeping. So much so that she doesn't tend to wait until she's somewhere out of the way, and will just doze off in the hallways, leading to many a hapless scientist tripping over her. Kato puts up with her behaviour because when she's not sleeping, she actually shows great potential and power. Getting her to wake up is always an interesting experience, however...
